Brand Stories
How a stopwatch maker for car-racing tracks ended up timing every commercial flight in 1969.

Léon Breitling launched the firm in 1884 making stopwatches and dashboard timers. By 1934 his son Willy patented the second chronograph pusher — the foundation of every modern chrono.
The Navitimer arrived in 1952 with a slide-rule bezel that pilots could use for fuel burn, ground speed, and unit conversion. By 1969 AOPA had adopted it as their official watch and most US airline pilots wore one.
Today's Navitimer B01 still has a working slide rule and an in-house movement — a rare combination at any price.
