Brand Stories
How an alpine Swiss brand named its dress line after a Ligurian seaside village and built a 40-year favourite.

IWC is Swiss — Schaffhausen, 60km north of Zurich. But in 1984 the brand launched the Portofino, named after the Italian Riviera village where the prototype was photographed.
The formula: clean three-hander, mid-size case, Roman or applied numerals, no clutter. Today it spans hand-wound, automatic, chronograph and moonphase variants — every one a quiet workhorse.
The 39mm Portofino Automatic with the in-house 35111 calibre is one of the best entry points to high Swiss watchmaking.
