Lab-Grown Diamonds in Watches

Lab-grown (LGD) diamonds are chemically identical to mined diamonds. Hardness, refractive index, fluorescence — all match. The savings: 50–70%.

Brands using LGDs

• Breitling — most diamond-set Premier and Chronomat references now use LGD by default.
• TAG Heuer — full LGD bezels on Aquaracer ladies.
• Bulova — entire diamond ladies' line transitioned in 2024.

The resistance

• Resale market still pays a premium for "mined."
• Cartier, Rolex and Patek have not adopted LGDs.
• Buyer education is incomplete — many shoppers still believe LGDs are "fake."

The gap is closing fast. By 2030 LGDs will be the default in mid-tier watches.
