The rule

Lug-to-lug should not exceed your wrist's flat width.

By wrist circumference

• 14–15cm — 34–37mm diameter, lug-to-lug ≤44mm.
• 15–16cm — 36–39mm diameter, lug-to-lug ≤46mm.
• 16–17cm — 38–40mm diameter, lug-to-lug ≤48mm.
• 17–18cm — 39–42mm diameter, lug-to-lug ≤50mm.
• 18cm+ — 40–44mm comfortable, 46mm wearable.

Thickness matters too

Under 12mm slides under cuffs. Over 14mm is a "rotation" piece for casual wear.

Measure your wrist with a soft tape. Don't guess.
