From a 1990 East German reunification startup to one of Germany's most respected manufactures.
Nomos was founded January 1990 in Glashütte, weeks after the Berlin Wall fell. The location was chosen deliberately — Glashütte's pre-WWII watchmaking heritage had been state-owned and run down. Nomos rebuilt it.
The design language: Bauhaus minimalism. Slim cases, mid-grey dials, blued hands, painted Arabic indices. Tangente (1992) is the icon.
Nomos developed its first in-house calibre Alpha in 2005 and the manual DUW 3001 in 2014. Today Nomos manufactures ~95% of every watch in-house — rare even among prestige Swiss brands.
