Brand Stories
From a Polish exile in 1839 to the most coveted brand in modern watchmaking.

Antoni Patek, a Polish cavalry officer, fled to Geneva in 1831 after the November Uprising. By 1839 he was making pocket watches with Franciszek Czapek. In 1845, French watchmaker Adrien Philippe joined — bringing his patented keyless winding mechanism — and the firm became Patek, Philippe & Cie in 1851.
The Stern family acquired the company in 1932 during the Depression and has run it ever since. Patek has never been publicly listed, never been merged into a group, and has not had layoffs in 185 years.
The Caliber 89 (1989) held the "most complicated watch" record for 26 years. The Grandmaster Chime (2014) surpassed it with 20 complications.
